Lab Alumni

Desiree Demille

2010-2015, PhD

I graduated with my PhD in Moleculr Biology in 2015. I studied the moelcular pathways by which PAS kinase acts to control central metabolism. I am currently working for ARUP studying human disease.

Kai Li Ong

Kai Li Ong
2014-2019, PhD

I just graduated with my Ph.D. Currently writing up my study of how AMPK affects mitochondria and ER communication. Research in cancer and aging intrigued me. I love to travel, ski, shoot and love riding my motorcyle.

Ruchira Sharma

Ruchira Sharma
2014-2019, PhD

I just graduate with my Ph.D. with visions of starting my own company one day. I am intrigued by vast untapped world of bacteriophage genomes and enjoys de-mystifying it by performing characterization and comparative studies.

Bryan Badal

2012-2014, MS

I graduated with my Masters in Microbiology and Molecular Biology studying SNF1 activation of PAS kinase. I am currently an Internal Medicine resident at The Ohio State University

Jonathan Neubert

2010-2012, MS

I graduated with Masters in Microbiology studying the interactions of HspB2. Currently finishing residency training in emergency medicine.

Nidhi Choksi

Nidhi Choksi
2014-2016, MS

I graduated with Masters in Microbiology studying the interactions betweem PASK ans ATXN2/PBP1. Currently I'm working in Flow cytometry core facility at University of Utah

Brooke Roark

Brooke Roark
2017-2019, MS

As a Master’s student I studied the interaction of PAS kinase and ATXN2/Pbp1 in human and yeast cell lines, to determine whether PAS kinase may be an effective treatment target to prevent the overgrowth of cells that occurs in certain cancers.

Jenny Pape

Jenny Pape
2016-2019, PhD

I graduated with my PhD in Molecular Biology in June 2019. I studied the regulation of metabolic health by PAS kinase. I am currently doing postdoctoral studies on human embryogenesis.

Trever Thurgood

Trever Thurgood
2018-2019, MS

I just gradauted with my masters in Microbiology and Molecular biology, with a research emphasis on bacteriophage protein identification and characterization. This research is useful in a clinical setting because it can identify potential therapeutic targets in phage therapy as well as identify harmful genes and proteins to avoid using in human treatments. I am currently teaching at Utah Valley Univerity and plan to apply to PhD programs.

Elise Melhado

Elise Melhado
2018-2019, MS

I graduated with my masters in Microbiology and Molecular Biology, with a research emphasis on the relationship between PAS Kinase and stress granules in cells, focusing on Ataxin-2. These interactions could lead to potential treatments for ALS. I hope to work in science outreach, helping to make scientific concepts more accessible to everyone.

Yoga Handoko

Yoga Handoko
2018 Visiting Scholar

I am very interested to learn about the identification and characterization of bacteriophages. I am very happy and grateful I could work at the Grose Lab. I want to develop bacteriophages as biocontrol agents in agriculture.

Brittany Pielstick

2017-2018, BYU Beckman Scholar

I graduated with my Bachelors in Microbiology from BYU and am currently a PhD student in the Biochemistry Cell and Molecular Biology program at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
