Profile

Briefly tell us about yourself (e.g. hometown, family, hobbies, favorite BYU courses, intended profession)

Born and raised in East Texas, I am the daughter of Corey and Lisa Hurst. In my free time, I like to arrange flowers, read, and spend time with friends. Since completing my degree in December, I have been working full-time as a Medical Technologist at Revere Health.

Who were your greatest supporters while earning this degree?

My parents have encouraged me every step of the way! I wouldn't be where I am today without their support. During the most difficult semesters of my program, my husband, Daniel, sacrificed his own time to help me study. He never complained when I insisted on teaching him, over and over again, about the differences between gram positive and gram negative bacteria or subtypes of anemia. The Medical Laboratory Science department is a family! My professors gave the best pep-talks and never doubted my ability to succeed.

What advice do you have for incoming freshmen at BYU?

Make time to go to sporting events. Use whiteboards when you study. Get to know your classmates, especially the students in your major. Study in groups. Watch Tuesday devotionals. And always remember, you can do this! Don't you dare give up.

How has your experience at BYU prepared you for the rest of your life?

My BYU experience has prepared me with a broader perspective and a greater desire to serve others! I am forever grateful for the lessons I have learned, in and out of the classroom.
