The Actinobacteria Project

This is a diverse bacterial class and includes the genera, Mycobacterium, Gordonia, Micrococcus and Rhodococcus. BYU Phage Hunters have had a rich tradition in finding phages infecting Mycobacterium smegmatis in collaboration with the Howard Hughes Institute SEA PHAGES program. We are now beginning to hunt for phages infecting Gordonia rubertincta and Microbacterium foliorum.
