MMBio

International Students

Most international students are studying on an F-1 Visa, which does not allow them to work off-campus.  In order to participate in an internship, they must participate in Curricular Practical Training  (CPT).  For an internship to qualify for CPT, it must be directly related to the international student's field of study.  CPT is regulated by the Federal Governement and requires that the international student has been enrolled full-time for at least one academic year prior to applying to CPT. Also, international students may not begin CPT util they recieve written authorization form the International Services Office.

In addition to normal internship forms, international students need:

Authorization Letter: this is a letter obtained from your prospective employer (on letterhead) that gives details of where you will be interning and what you will be doing. See the CPT form for more info.  This must be approved before you are allowed to intern. This request for approval is available at International Services or online.

Current Form I-20

Letter from internship coordinator: this letter will state whether or not the proposed internship is related to the student's field of study.

Documentation of enrollment in related class: for MMBio internships, this class would be 399R
